Toasted Gastrobrunch in La Mesa delivers a laid-back yet thoughtfully curated brunch experience that fits well into the neighborhood’s easygoing vibe. Located on Fletcher Parkway, this restaurant occupies the spot where Sammy’s used to be, but it’s taken on a fresh personality with a spacious, airy interior and inviting outdoor seating surrounded by greenery and flowers. The atmosphere leans toward casual comfort, making it a spot where groups can linger over brunch or locals can enjoy a slower weekend morning unwind.

The menu leans heavily into brunch classics with some elevated twists. Dishes like the Smoked Brisket Hash and Lobster Scramble speak to a willingness to blend familiar comfort with richer, more indulgent flavors — all offered at a thoughtful price point typical for a serious brunch-focused eatery. Sandwiches like the Wagyu Burger and Smoked Brisket Melt emphasize hearty, satisfying options that pair well with the relaxed setting.

People who visit here usually enjoy ample time with friends or family, making it a prime spot for weekend breakfasts or brunch celebrations. The service has received mixed notes regarding timing—coffee may arrive after the meal—but overall, the staff contributes to a welcoming environment. The outdoor seating is especially pleasant on sunny La Mesa mornings, where the open space and natural touches soften the urban bustle.

This restaurant appears best suited for those who appreciate diverse brunch offerings beyond standard eggs and toast, including options like the multi-grain avocado toast and flavorful hash variations. It’s also a place where locals might feel comfortable stopping by for both casual meals and special occasions due to the variety and quality in its menu.

In short, Toasted Gastrobrunch appeals to neighborhood brunchers and visitors alike looking for a spacious, garden-adjacent spot to enjoy elevated comfort food alongside friends or family, ideally during pleasant weekend daylight hours.

This review is for the new Toasted restaurant that replaced Sammy's. I went and was not disappointed. Relaxing inside and outside seating. Their brunch menu has good variety. I especially enjoyed the Elvis French toast. I believe this will be the best brunch spot in all La Mesa. Definitely worth a try.

This place was hands down GREAT!!! Alfred was amazing. The Breakfast Sammy, Stuffed French Toast, Grits and Shrimp and the small breaded potatoes… omg this place is so good and a birthday Sunday for the table… thank you for the great atmosphere and service.

I ordered the short rib Benny and it was too spicy for me but still good. The service was ok. It took a long time for her to bring a cup of coffee. The food came before the coffee. But it’s a nice place and I’d go back to try different foods.

We had a wonderful experience. I raised my son in San Diego and also getting pizza or a sundae here throughout that time. I have since moved away but am back for a visit and wow has Sammy’s changed. The restaurant is just beautiful with so much openness, green and flowers everywhere you turn. The service was friendly, and consistently good. The food was so good! It was happy hour and my friend got the lettuce wraps and she loved them. Lots of flavor! I had the mini cheeseburger appetizer and they were so flavorful. I opted to have both the cheeses on these mini burgers and that was a good decision…. Really good mix of flavor. We also got the cotton candy. I remembered this from when my son Would get it here and he loved it…. Check out the pics as it’s so pretty and light and airy— yum! Truly wonderful experience….
